'One of the more enticing releases to have come to my attention recently, this time via the magic portal that is Twitter, is the debut release by Northampton/London-based trio called The Paperweight Array. Their three-track EP 'Transmissions From A Distant Star' brims with melodic invention, accomplished harmonies and side-stepping chord sequences that conjures up an impressive list of possible influences. Pink Floyd, The Beach Boys, ELP, Jellyfish are just a few names that spring to mind.

Like all good bands though they're more than just a photocopied version of their favourite bands with a sound that both pushes boundaries but not at the expense of accessibility As is said in music industry parlance they're definitely "ones to watch". Intriguing to see what they'll come up with next. Check out the EP via the player above.' (Harmonic Distortion)

'Blasting out of Northhampton, UK comes a new psychedelic trio in the form of The Paperweight Array. The EP Transmissions from a distant star is their debut release.

Things start off with a bang, almost as if we were coming in midway through the title track with a near anthemic chorus, no muss no fuss no introduction. It’s startling, but it sets the tone for what’s to come, and that’s three songs of well written, deftly played psychedelic pop rock. I hear echoes of Syd era Floyd, but the sound here is tighter, less out there, but not in a bad way. The songs are filled with catchy guitar hooks, soaring vocal melodies and gorgeous Byrds style harmonies. Second track, Going Back, does have some intriguing, quirky organ lines that add a bit of an off-kilter feel, but the rhythm section ties it all together and the harmonies shine in the spaces in-between. Corporal Cameo gives us some nice spacey passages and exotic guitar lines, and is probably the trippiest song on the EP, with a twangy, echoing, surf-style guitar solo, but again, it all comes together with its catchy chorus and savvy pop sensibilities.

These are three delicious and memorable tunes that I find myself humming now and then when I’m off doing other things. Now I’m really looking forward to whatever comes next from these guys.(Psychedelicwaves.com)

'Transmissions from a Distant Star, starts with the title track, some fantastic spiky guitar work and then a wonderfully spacey chorus that brings to mind a whole mix of sounds, there’s elements of XTC, some Canterbury scene and a whole summer of ’67 vibe carrying through the sound.

A perfect way to introduce yourself and it makes a massive impact as you listen to it.

Going Back, showcases how the band works with each other, the Paperweight Array being an old school power trio, with Aaron on guitar, vocals and keys, Just on bass and keys and Dunc on drums and percussion.

Listening to the mighty sound they make you wouldn’t think there were only three of them!

Again there is a lot of power in the riffs and the interplay between all three of them is one of the EP’s strengths, you can tell these guys know how to play, and more importantly know how to play with each other to bring the best out of them.

Corporal Cameo is a neo gothic old school psychedelic story, with some fantastic lyrics, and some wonderfully trippy keyboard sounds, and another one of those brilliant guitar riffs.

Listening to their sound and performance on this one, and you’d think Corporal Cameo was a lost 60’s psych classic that Stuart Maconie had dug up for his Freak Zone on BBC Radio 6.' (Progarchy)
